In a major boost for Nigeria’s digital transformation, Tizeti, West Africa’s pioneering solar-based internet service provider, secured long-term debt financing from Chapel Hill Denham’s Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF) to roll out its state-of-the-art broadband network across 15 Nigerian states. Announced in late 2023 but continuing to drive impact in 2025, this move aligns with Nigeria’s goal of 70% broadband penetration by 2025 and addresses the digital divide in Africa’s largest economy.
What’s Happening?
Tizeti, a Lagos-based wireless internet provider, is expanding its high-speed, unlimited Wi-Fi services from five states (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Edo, Rivers) to 15, including Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Abia, Anambra, Imo, Enugu, Abuja, Kano, and Kaduna. The funding from NIDF, Nigeria’s largest infrastructure debt fund, will support new internet infrastructure and equipment purchases, aiming to make Tizeti the country’s largest ISP by coverage. With over 3 million subscribers and a competitive N12,500 ($16) monthly fee for unlimited data, Tizeti leverages solar-powered base stations to deliver affordable connectivity, a model already successful in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
